Targa looked the Spec-Ops Elite over. "Rash," he said. "But brave at least," he added grudgingly, "You have kept them pinned down; if you had advanced any slower they might have gotten away. But now it seems they're cornered, so we can afford a little time to think." He pointed back the way they had come, "There was a layout of the building near the top of the stairs. Examine it, find out what part of the building the humans still control, and see if they have access to any exits, including the roof. That means another way in for us as well. This is where they expected us to come, so this is their strongest point. Not the best place to attack, agreed?"

"Agreed," Anau nodded. He was half expecting an energy blade to slice his throat for his failure. He ran back down the hall to the top of the stairs and found the layout fixed to the wall. He examined it, but found it difficult. It was in the Humans language, and it wasn't interactive like a ship's hall guidance system. But, from what he could tell, there was a room directly above the Humans. His squad could attack from the ceiling. They certainly would not see that coming. "Yes," he growled to himself, "I have a plan!" He yelled back down the hall, "Squad, follow me! Ream, hold this position."
Ream looked between Anau and the Ultra. She had the Ultra fooled, per her plan, but it seemed to have backfired. Anau was now about to legitimately lead the squad. If she revealed he wasn't the commander, it would be her head for lying. "Yes, sir." She growled. Holding back one of the Spec Ops Minors as he attempted to follow the squad. "You stay with me."

"We have a problem!" Jack called from out in the hall.
"What is it?" Toni asked back.
"The Elites are pulling back!"
"Isn't that a good thing?" Verve asked from her radio console, still not receiving any transmission from command.
"No," Toni answered, "They have a new game plan."

"Good," Targa nodded with a self-satisfied smile. "And hurry, before the humans try to make a counter attack."
* * *
Diana stayed near the door where she had taken cover, and held her rifle tightly, ready for anything. "How well are they guarding the hall?" she asked, "Are we still cornered?" She looked out to answer her own question.
* * *
Zarra slipped by the other Elites as they fell back, searching for wounded among the fallen Elites. She held her stolen pistol ready and watched the humans at the end of the hall out of the corner of her eye.
* * *
Diana scanned the hall as the Elites slipped out of sight, it was clear, though, that they still guarded the hall from rooms and other halls that intersected it. She was about to turn back when her eyes caught movement, a blur, barely visible, creeping towards them. She drew her side arm, and the shape froze, nearly vanishing, but Diana kept her eyes on the spot she had last seen it and took aim. It only took one shot and the shape collapsed with a howl of pain and a fizzle of it's weak shields breaking and stealth fading. Diana laughed and approached the crumpled Elite. It was still breathing and whimpered when she reached it, observing her with wild, fearful eyes. "Hey, maybe this one knows what they're planning," said Diana, giving the wounded creature an experimental kick, "I think we can handle this little runt."

Ream and the Spec Ops Elite she had held back quickly turned when they heard the shot. An Elite fell to a Spartan, who was now standing tauntingly over it. Ream growled and lifted her repeater. "Kill it!"
A barrel of plasma bolts reigned down the hall as Jack emerged with Martin to cover Diana. "Get the Elite inside!"
Ream grabbed the Specs Ops Minor's arm and forced him to shoot in the direction of the wounded Elite, "What are you doing!?" He exclaimed.
"Kill the Elite! They're taking it alive!" She then stood to fire more accurately, but she met several shots from Jack and Martin and was forced to lower.

Diana tried to shield the Elite she had captured from the other Elites' fire and dragged it into the nearest room. Then she looked it over, seeing how badly it was wounded. It looked stunned and it's side was bleeding from the bullet wound it had received. She didn't know if anything vital was hit, but they only needed it to live long enough to get the information they needed. It's fellow Elites had managed only to damage it's pale armor. She didn't know what the color meant, but, from the armor's plainness, it didn't appear to be high ranking.

(OoC: Is it Zarra?)
"Damn it!" Cursed Ream, "Where did that Elite come from! I thought they all ran off after Nadumee!"
Anau stood in the centre of the room he hoped was directly above the Humans, "Plant charges here," he ordered, "We will drop in from the ceiling and take them while in shock." He stepped aside as a technician brought in a small circular device and placed it where Anau had instructed. As he began priming the device, Anau put aside his rifle and took up his sword. "Draw swords."
"Diana!" Jack called from out in the hall, "We'll hold them, get it in here!"

(OoC: Yup )
Zarra groaned, blinking her eyes. Dazed by pain, her vision was blurred and the room was spinning. She had been shot before, but it had been a while and it wasn't something one could easily get used to.
Diana lifted the Elite up. It was small for an Elite, but still bigger than herself and awkward to carry. She hurried across the hall to where the others were and dropped the Elite roughly, making it howl again. "Do we have anything to tie it up with?" she asked, "It won't be happy when it recovers from the shock."

Jack stayed by the door to watch for Elites while the others gathered around the captive.
"Slit it's throat," one trooper said, more demandingly than suggestively.
"Look at it's armour, you ever seen that colour? Maybe it's important." Another said.
While the troopers bickered about ways to kill the Elite and reasons to keep it alive, Toni brought over some electrical wiring and tied it around the Elite's wrists, "We'll torture it," she said, "As a compromise for all you men that want it dead,"
"Are we even going to give it a chance to talk?" Martin asked.
"Did they give us a chance?"

"We need to find out what they're planning," growled Diana, "That's why I didn't shoot it in the head or leave it to die in the first place. You all can do what you want with it afterward, but we're going to interrogate it first." The Elite started to recover and struggled against it's restraints. Diana kicked it again, "Hey! Big ugly lizard thing! You speak any human languages?" It appeared to be thinking hard then spat shrilly in broken English, "Die! You all... evil! Die!" "Your buddies, where did they go? What are they up to?" Diana asked. The Elite glared at her uncomprehendingly, then let out an irritated growl. Diana cursed quietly, then turned to the rest of the group, "Do we have anything that can translate for us?"

"I left my English to Blarg-Blarg dictionary on the Falcon," Jack commented, chuckling to himself while he continued to watch the hall.
Martin shook his head in response to Diana's question and looked to the other Spartans, "Any of you?"

Darman had put away his carbine, clipping the MA5 to the magnetic plates on his back. He kept his magnum casually pointed at their captive. "Nothing comes to mind.... This is ONI HQ, right? Surely they have something around here that could help."

(OOC Someone asked for a portable dictionary )
Lebron pushed his way into the room with his other Spartan companion barely escaping the Covenant advance.
" Oh hey ya'll " murmered the Spartan. He then turned to see they had an elite in here....the armor color was quite odd not like the usual elite he seen he went to check his research and the information ONI gave him. " Where did you find this one.....and what is it doing here....did ONI finally give me a live specimen to work with " asked Lebron as he resumed studying the captured elite.

Zarra struggled again, as the humans babbled in their unholy tongue around her. She only knew fragments of the humans' language, and most of it was curses and insults.
"Found it sneaking around out in the hall," Diana answered Lebron, "It had good stealth but weak shields, only took one round to bring it down." She turned back to the Elite and kicked it once again, "Wort! Wort! Wort! You get that?"

" excuse me yes I get that you need to restrain the elite so it does not kill us but well don't you think making it angry would make restraining even harder honey " asked Lebron as he got his Covenant Language softwear up and running....if it worked well it would translate his English to Spilt-Lip....this was a prototype he had developed but it again it should work. Alright here it goes the unveiling of his prototype.
" [ what is your name.....why are you here....I suggest you cooperate with me here as I will see what I can do about getting them to lay off of you....I am not here to hurt you only to learn and observe ] " asked Lebron to the elite in what should be the native tongue of the Sangheili.

"Really?" Marcas sighed with a facepalm, "Tell the Elite we'll kill it if it doesn't talk."

Anau and the rest of his squad stood around the outside of the room with the circular explosive device sitting in the centre. One by one they activated their Energy Swords. "Be quick; these Demons will be fast to recover from the explosion. Take them first."
