Location: Emerald Cove
Primary Faction(s): U.N.S.C.
Date: Early 2553
Status: Operation ongoing
Force: 2 Scorpion tanks, 5 Warthogs, 2 Mongooses. 3 Spartans and Approx. 15 ODST's.
Situation: A single UNSC cruiser has followed a ship of unknown classification through a slip-space portal almost immediately after the battle in Earth's orbit. The Cruiser has been taken to Emerald Cove, an UNSC colony world abandoned many years ago. Un-noticed by the unknown ship, the UNSC cruiser hid out of view, sending an O.D.S.T. recon force to the planets surface.
Shortly after receiving vehicles, the recon is ambushed by a walker of unknown classification, though similar in colour and design to the ship they followed through Slip Space. After all efforts to destroy the walker failed, a flight of Shortswords launches a deadly attack on the walker, sending it back into the whole in which it came, though the recon suffering considerable losses.
After a nights rest, the recon team stumbled upon three mauled ODST bodies at the foot of a large, mysterious forest. Unknown of what dwells within, the recon team contemplates their next move.

Russell munched on a candy bar. "Well, these ODST bodies are mauled. Hunters seem like the only suspect, but they don't have teeth. Elites aren't strong enough, and although Brutes are inhumane, they aren't THAT beast-like and they don't maul bodies. I think we should lock 'n load and go in there. See what's happening."
He proceeded to rack his MA5C.

(Ooc I think that Elites are capable of mauling somebody its just that they wouldn't because they are too classy to do it)
" I think we should go around because well if those things are in there I would rather not meet them when they could so easily ambush us and well we don't really have the numbers to afford to lose any body that way" said Specs. "or at least keep the ODSTs out of the forest..no offence but I just don't want you guys to die that way..I don't want anybody to die that way its just a Spartan would have more time to react to an ambush" said Specs. He stood there staring into the forest deep in thought.

Matt shook his head at the atrocity. To be honest, he hadn't seen this coming; he'd sent the men and women out with one aim, fully expecting them to come back out alive and well, with results. Yet what had happened instead? This. They'd come out, alright, which was, in itself, a surprise. However, they weren't in one piece and they most definitely weren't alive and well. He shook his head again, in disgust. "We can't go around." He said, in all honesty, to those around him. "Whilst brave men and women are fighting, up there, against those aliens, we need to get to them as quickly as possible. Besides, the quicker we get to the other side, the quicker we can leave."
"It would take most likely weeks more than otherwise to get back around the forest and then get back on course, and by that time who knows what might have happened to our allies up above?" He jabbed an armoured finger towards the sky. "We can't risk their death. We can't risk the United Nations Space Command encountering these aliens, for the first time, with no knowledge of what the hell they are. That happens, more brave men and women will die, and it will be our fault for not notifying them first. I can't let that happen. All I can do is ask you to accompany me, for the good of the United Nations Space Command itself."
Yet was this the only reason? Of course not. Silent for a few moments, Matt bent to the ground and slowly began covering the bodies of the brave soldiers with sand, to shield the site. There would be little more than a shallow grave for them, and for that Matt was sorry. Straightening up, he continued. "Besides, we have a duty to whatever's in there. If it's a threat, we're obliged to kill it. If not, we could turn it to be our ally. And..." Matt lowered his voice. "Two more soldiers went in than came out." He indicated the bodies. "We have a duty to them more than anything else to, if they're alive, rescue them. They must be going through hell right now. All I can do is ask you men and women to accompany me."

"yes sir" said Specs. "If it is ok with you I would like to go first...its just how I am" said Specs. "we should call our allies as I have a feeling that we are out numbered and potentally out gunned" said Specs. He stared at the forest again. "are you sure the vechiles will fit..the Mongooses and the Warthogs probally can but what of the tanks they may not be able to make it through..unless they blast there way through" asked Specs.

"Just how you are? When you say 'go first' I sure hope you mean taking point," Charlie said. "I'm sure the tanks will have no problem tearing through a few tree's, but maybe we should leave the tanks here until we've cleared the forest, we don't want to make too much noise," she continued.

Russell carefully listened. "Alright, I'll make a call to the UNSC to send extra forces to Emerald Cove." He paused.
"At least, if they have the power to perform that act."

Shaking his head at Russel, Matt looked over at him and explained. "Don't you think I'd have called for back up if I could have anyway?" His tone wasn't reprimanding, but explaining. "We can't get any sort of transmission through those alien ships above without it getting jammed; I've already tried. Anyway, we can't bring more ships into incoming danger like those ships. We don't want a battle; we want as little bloodshed on the part of the United Nations Space Command as is possible." As he said this, he gently squeezed Charlie's shoulder. When he envisioned the love others held for one another, he knew it was the same sort of relationship as between him and Charlie. He didn't want to lose her, and so others wouldn't want to lose their loved ones. And so he'd do his best to protect their loved ones.
He looked towards the ominous forest again, and the approaching convoy. They'd be with them in around ten minutes time; no more. And then they'd be able to clear a stretch through the forest as soon as they possibly could. That wouldn't be the problem presented. It was now around midday, the sun warming the metal armour of those in the United Nations Space Command on the planet, the machines, people and the convoy itself. "First, though, you ladies and gentlemen are needed for something altogether different. Inside, there's one more Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, who hasn't yet met the same fate as his comrades." He indicated the bodies slowly gathering sand and dust nearby, revulsion held back by him having seen sights like this before.
"God knows what he must be going through right now; seeing as what whoever's in there did to these others, I don't imagine it's all fun and games in there for him. We have a duty to protect and rescue him from whoever's in there may not be an enemy anyway. They may have done what they did out of fear. We need all the allies we can get, and it's our job to try and pacify and ally ourselves with them before our tanks steamroll through and make them think we're out to kill them. Besides, if they are malicious and we do send tanks through, the first thing they'll do will be to kill the Trooper. It's our job to rescue him before they can do that." Matt turned to the forest, looking back at those behind once, his gaze lingering on Charlie, before stepping under the trees and into the dark forest beyond.

"Secure any loose grenades you have and keep it tight," Charlie ordered, cocking her rifle. Johnny leaped off the turret and walked up to Charlie, taking two grenades off his belt. "Aren't we going to need these, to you know, blow stuff up?" "You don't want a tree branch to pull the pin, do you?" Charlie asked in a somewhat cheeky tone, then following Matt into the forest. "I don't know, do you?" Johnny laughed, then immediately realizing what he said wasn't funny. He cleared his throat and followed Charlie into the forest.

"Well then, Matt, I guess yer right."
He paused for a second, appearing to be embarrased.
"I harbor a lot of rage ever since my family was killed. I watched as they were tortured, killed, destroyed without mercy. I never got a chance to fight back. I hid. When I was abducted by ONI I allowed them, in the hopes of this new life where I would get to strike back against those who killed my family. I did. If they have malicious intents," He paused to make it look more serious, and then said the rest in a low, unforgiven tone: "If they have malicious intents, I will show them the same mercy they showed these ODSTs."
He proceeded to come back to normal, but not for long anyways. "Well, one question. Once we're done here, how do we get off this god-forsaken Eden with that flotilla of alien ships up there?"
He proceeded to apparently get a bit sad. Jacobs could tell. He saw that his weapon, an MA5C, was shaking. Shortly after, he, too, went into the forest, now knowing what he would find there OR what would happen to the-at least, with his knowledge-undefended camp.

Specs darted into the forest with BR at the ready at his side. The Spartans had an advantage here they could see in the dark some of the ODSTs might of have Nightvision but machines breaks eyes don't. He thought about Russels solution if needed they could make a slipsapce jump in the Jeresey and damage the surface of Emerald Cove and that was if the slipspace drives were working as the ship was heavily damaged. "Grim let me know if you pick up any human life forms" asked Specs. "sure thing meatbag" said Grim. *** The Carrier The Forerunner Hammer arrived into tbe system of Emerald Cove. "I could of swore we glassed this world" murmered Katar. "looks like we are going to have to fight our way in" said Inwa. "then begin warming the Plasma and put the sheilds up" said Katar. " I am" said Inwa.

Russell continued to move and heard multiple noises. He was apparently on edge. He continally aimed his gun, one accidentally shooting a tree.
"Oops."

"Jesus!" Charlie jumped, spinning around to Russel. "Really? Did you really just do that?" she groaned. "For a Spartan, never mind, what's wrong with today's generation Spartans?" she murmured to herself, catching up to Matt.

"That was quicker than I expected," Anau said, stepping off the bed. He tightened his armour and opened the door. "Well, I guess this isn't going to be a quick skirmish after all," Anau said, hearing the shields charge.

"I should change out of these clothes," said Zarra, gathering up her armor and carrying it in to the tiny restroom attached to the room. A few minutes later she stepped out, sighing. "I look like a Minor. No one is going to take me seriously at all when we get out there."

Mira continued tracking the others, growing more and more worried. She heard a gunshot in the distance and headed toward the sound, hoping it would lead her closer to rejoining the group.

"all plasma lines ready to fire mistress" said an Elite onboard. "good fire lines 1,2,and 3 and all of our loaded torpedos at a ship as I said before we just need to break a hole through their blockade to get to the surface..lauch all fighter as well" said Inwa. "isn't that a bit much" asked an Elite on the bridge. "no never underestimate the enemey plus these ships look strong" said Katar answering for Inwa remembering how he had under estimated the Demon at his homeworld. "yes of course sir" said the Elite. "send some Phantoms through on the next barrage we have not heard from the humans in a while and that troubles me" said Katar. "that seems dangerous" said Inwa. "don't worry they will be distracted by the fire" said Katar. "All Specical Operations Elites to the hanger immediatly" said Inwa over the intercomn over the ship. (Ooc Sorry for the rush but I want the Elites to join the action as soon as possible) "are we close enough for orbital insertion pods" asked Inwa. "no thats even more dangerous then Phantoms plus they will merely draw cover to them selves plus you forget the Phantoms have camoflage" said Katar. "yes of course I am use to the old ones" said Inwa.
