Convince me that the majority of man-kind is not evil. Les Goooo
While we are at it why no add the never-ending debate of do we really exist and the debate of what is the self?

It depends on how you define evil. If you think being self-centered and uncaring is evil, yeah sure. (I think that's wrong, myself, but I wouldn't necessarily go as far as to call it evil. ) If you define evil as being focused on making as many people as they can suffer as much as possible, or being so selfish as to let other people die or suffer to get what they want, no. I haven't had much faith in humanity since middle school, and I used to think that way, but I've gradually come to realize that most aren't actually malicious, they just were never taught that they weren't the center of the universe and that other people have feelings too. It seems no one is aware that actions have consequences any more, either, so they blame everyone else for their problems. It isn't right, but it isn't evil either. Most people don't murder or steal or try to hurt people because they know it's wrong, (all societies I know of wouldn't condemn those things if the majority of the human race didn't agree that it was wrong). People still help each other, give each other gifts, love and care about each other, etc. Good and evil are hard things to define, and no one on Earth fits perfectly into either category. Good people sometimes do bad things, and bad people always have at least a little good in them and could still change.

I began losing faith in Humanity when I watched soldiers in Iraq fire on civilians, and then laugh about it. It's been on a slippery slope since then.
In addition to that, never work in retail. Ever. No matter how big you smile and how kind you are, you're hardly ever appreciated.
Ok, onto my argument: per Indi. That is all :3

Yeah... to be honest, I have no great faith in humanity. IMHO, we'll die out either by destroying ourselves or getting our resources stolen by alien, Christopher Columbus-style.
Wait, I was supposed to convince you we're good? Ah.... er.... if there weren't humans, waffles would never have been created?
Nah, just kidding. Real debatey time. =D
The reason people think humans are evil is really just what they remember. What sticks most vividly in the mind? The evil, the horrible, and the disturbing. Someone help a grandmother across the street next to you? Rarely noticed. Mental patient run someone over? Guess what gets put in the paper.
In my opinion, very few humans are truly good or evil. There have been a few bad seeds (Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Genghis Khan) and a few buds of absolute beauty (Mahatma Gandhi, Sophie and Hans Scholl, Mother Theresa). But for the most part, people just tend to be... human. Inconsistent, but capable of great acts of kindness or cruelty. It really depends on your outlook and circumstance, though, what the majority of humanity is filed under...

You want f**ked up? Well there was this air force colonel here in Canada that snuck into houses at night and like, took pictures of ladies' underwear and even of some of him jacking off in a few. not to mention he raped a lady soldier at the base.
That. Is evil and FUBAR.

YOU want f**ked up?
Apparently, a seven year old girl is dying of Huntington's disease. A neighbor who shall go un-named (search Jennifer Petkov---SHIT!) apparently has been harassing them: she's put two pics up on her Facebook (of the mom in the embrace of Death and the girl's head above a crossbones a la pirate style), and also has a hearse, which she commonly parks by the dying girl's house, then opens the coffin and guns the engine (presumably while staying still).
Not only that, but the whole goddamned shebang started because of a late response to a f*cking party text message. A single delayed response to a text message caused this crapstorm.
Not only is this evil, but eternal torture in the 8th circle of Hell by Osama bin Laden and Hitler would probably be ethical compared to that. But that's hyperbole. Still, they should probably get beaten to within an inch of their life, just for being such goddamned f*ckwads.
So yes, this message and most others goes completely against the point of this entire damn thread.
As for Indi, if any of you need an easier comparation, compare it to ME's Paragon/Renegade scores. They fill SEPERATELY, so just because a Renegade person performs a good act doesn't mean they're not evil anymore, whereas a good man who occasionally gets a bit brutal doesn't mean he's suddenly stained evil forever.

Evil is a relative term based on perspective. What do I win?

Thank you for bringing that up, Sparty.
I'm sure everyone has heard of 4chans /b/ (inb4 rules 1 and 2, gtfo newfag etc.)
Anon is capable of some terrible, terrible things. A lot of people there are bad, bad to the bone. But when they heard about this woman harassing the family devastated by this disease? They attacked without mercy.
So it does indeed seem that bad people doing bad often see good, and do it.

I am so proud that you all of seen the trickery in my question as "good" and "evil" are never really defined. Bravo
@ Ares Damn you have me there...without my fellow man where would I get waffles?
Someone brought up the fact that people's bad qualities and good qualities sort of mask each other out and I completely agree with this:
For example: Hitler well you know what bad shit he did (if you don't then...*facepalm* go to school....and if the ordering of the death of 6 million people....not to mention all the people you sent off to war is not "bad" to you then...you have problems....go see some therapist....now)
This man actually did some good things *gasp*: - brought Germany out of a depression - Volkswagen - Autobahn
Whether or not these good things out weigh the good things without him he would not have Volkswagens, the Autobahn or Interstates (<---based off of the Autobahn)
A reverse example: FDR (President Franklin Delanor Roosevelt) helped lead American and lift us from the Great Depression....kinda put some Japense American's in Internment Camps, and took their property....yeah ouch.

I think Humanity is depressing, but only because we see the evil more often than than good. We still haven't really evolved out of survival mode. I take comfort in the fact that while there are terrible people out there, there are just as many kind people too. Although the majority of people just sit on the fence, but there you have it.
