Lyra nodded. "I hope so. Good luck." She looked away. She really did hope to see him again.

Russ ran out into the hangar. Just before the Phantom lifted off, he grabbed onto it and pulled himself in.
"Sorry about that one, got late after rebuilding the MBR."
He simply leaned against the wall and attached the MBR to his back armor plate. His silenced SMG lay on his lap: he didn't put all of his trust in his custom-built. Sometimes you need manufactured weapons.
(OoC: If the Phantom has already lifted off then I'll make it so that my guy was already inside the Phantom. That or we can work something else out which gets my guy shot down.)

Zaku hissed as the Rifter fleet came into sight. The fleet was... huge. To say the least. They had at least the same numbers as the Sangheili-human (but mostly Sangheili) fleet that had just arrived. But that didn't mean that the Rifters held the cards. Zaku and Sanderson had the element of surprise. And the pounce of a Thyshresaan jungle cat was far more deadly than the dense-headed Ramnok's charge. Zaku roared to the Sangheili on the bridge, "MOVE, MOVE, MOVE! DRIVE THE DAMNING STAKE OF THE SANGHEILI BATTLE FLEET INTO THEIR PITIFUL HEARTS!" The ice-eyed Zealot swiveled back to the huge window, and pointed a+t the huge fleet with a gold-clawed hand.
"Destroy them! Wipe this scourge from the face of the galaxy, and your names will be carved into history for ever!!!"
-------------------------- ((OOC/ I dun want Justin to be all alone, so we're pretending he went on the Pelican. =D))
Justin stumbled as the Pelican lurched. Taking the fight to the Rifters... yeah... fun.

((OoC: Yeah, the Phantom took off a long time ago. Just make it a flashback, like Specs said. )) Zarra clung to her restraints tightly and closed her eyes, listening carefully to the dropship's radio for assurance that Anau's Pelican was unharmed. A ride into battle like this should have felt very familiar to her, but she shuddered with every jolt like a new recruit. Hopefully fighting wouldn't be quite as difficult to get used to again.

No ambush... this wasn't a trap, they legitimately had the upper hand. With a sigh of relief and a cheeky grin, Sanderson decided to give the Rifters a 'gift' he had been saving for 5 years.
"Nuke'm."
With that, four Shiva-class nuclear missiles shot from Sanderson's vessel and screamed their way to the ships leading the enemy fleet. The flash of light and mass explosion was met with a cheer by everyone on the bridge, and no doubt every other Human on the fleet.
"Archers, now!"
The four Marathon class cruisers and three Frigates forming the point of the Human fleet then unleashed their stockpile of Archer missiles. Over 1500 missiles raced across the gap that divided the two fleets before bombarding the enemy.
More cheering.
Though they were quickly silenced when they returned fire. A Frigate, the one that was carrying the Pelican was immediately destroyed, falling victim to the Rifter's own brand of nuclear missile. Then swarms, hundreds of swarms of Rifter fighters intercepted their fleet.
"Fun's over, full speed ahead, prepare for close quatars!"

"Sanderson is really giving them hell," Kelly said, going over the orders he was transmitting to other ships.
"And so he should," Lachlan grunted, dodging enemy ships and debris, "Still haven't forgiven him for ditching us on that world though,"
"Maybe you should after he leads us all to victory and essentially freedom," Kelly replied.
Lachlan didn't reply and continued to the Ring which was now not far away.
"The Ring has been scanned, and the control room has been located. Coordinates uploaded now." she then advised.

Zaku activated the holo-console by waving his hand. It brought up a menu. After selecting all of the available options, he vocally activated them. "Plasma torpedoes, mortars, energy beams, explosive projectile launchers, singe pods, star needles, and plasma cannons, engage." Now, for the fun to begin....
--------------------
The Radiant Jewel let loose a virtual wall of assault weaponry. Bright streaks of blue larger than a human frigate raced towards the Rifters, clouds of huge pinkish-purple needles split the void, crackling golden beams ripped into the enemy fleet, and explosive white charges raced to detonate against a number of Rifter vessels. Within several seconds, the three other Sangheili assault fleets proceeded to do the same, discharging similar amounts of weaponry into the surprised Rifter fleet. Dozens of Rifters vessels exploded, crumbled, and simply vanished- obliterated entirely. Zaku roared in defiance. Time to show them what the Sangheili could do.
However, the Rifter counter-attack had begun. Huge numbers of Rifter fighters, swarming like hideous, stinging insects, buzzed across the soundless void to the Sangheili and humans. Several Dreadnoughts and a destroyer were simply destroyed by the starfighters, but the destroyer detonated its plasma drive core and obliterated most of the Rifter starfighters headed for the Sangheili. Rifter gunships, warships, and titania turned to fire upon the Sangheili. On the ship, Zaku bellowed, "SHIELDS UP!'
Buzzing and crackling shields of pure energy split the void, coming up just barely before the Rifter counterattack. Projectiles, energy beams, and missiles smacked against the shields. However, a fair number got through... Three Warships, two Dreadnaughts, and four cruisers were blown to pieces, and numerous other ships took damage from the strikes. However, Zaku quickly retaliated. Another round of devastating projectiles, this time including the Hammer of Righteousness, a great blast of sheer gravity, was launched at the enemy. Oh, this would be fun....-+

The Phantom was an odd and unusual place... maybe it was because he had never been in one. Or maybe it was because he had an odd feeling fighting these Rifters... or maybe it was all of them.
The Spartan kept ready. Something was about to happen, and he needed to be ready for it.

Darman lurched in his harness as a the craft began to bob and weave, struggling to avoid enemy fire. Again, he found himself in yet another situation in which he was powerless to alter the outcome. He tried to steady his breathing, which now came through in quiet, ragged gasps. It felt as if the walls of the dropship were closing in on him. He needed out of here, needed his boots dug into the alien soil below. But after a few more moments, the claustrophobia passed, and he was as ready as ever.

The once dark troop bay was now illuminated with an eery red glow as the Pelican entered the Ring's atmosphere.
Anau was terrified, but didn't show it. Though the Pelican was violently shaking and he was surrounded by those he once swore to kill, it was the red glow that was doing it. It wasn't familiar, it screamed death in Anau's mind.
He grasped onto his seat with one hand and planted his other on the Pelican's floor, which was rapidly heating up.
"Hang on back there, just a few more seconds," Lachlan announced while attempting to keep the craft stable.
Then, just seconds later, the craft was peaceful again. The shaking stopped and the red glow was replaced with natural light seeping in through the Pelican's bay door window.
"Is that it!?" an ODST cried, either relived or disappointed that the ride was over.
"Ha ha, again!" cheered an Elite.
Chandler stood from his seat and peered out the cockpit window, "That can't be right..." He turned and stomped from the cockpit into the troop bay and opened the bay door. Sunlight filled the troop bay followed by a strong breeze.
"Sanderson, we're on the Ring," Chandler advised, "I thought you said it would be snowing,"
The Installations terrain was revealed to be desert. From the height the Pelican was at, it seemed the Rings terrain really was nothing but flat, endless plains of sand.
Lachlan shook his head, "Welcome back." The Pelican continued towards it's destination, high above the clouds in an effort to not be spotted.

((OoC: He's allowed to post that here if he wants, just as long as everyone trys to avoid making superfluous OoC posts too often. )) The turbulence of entering the atmosphere ended, and Zarra decided it was safe to remove her restraints. She immediately made her way to the front of the dropship and looked out over the pilot's shoulder. "...Doesn't look quite like snow..." she murmured to herself, then turned to the pilot, "How is the Pelican faring?" "The Pelican is fine, ma'am" the pilot replied, "It's just ahead of us." Zarra looked out again and caught sight of it through the clouds. "Good," she said, nodding to herself, "Good."

After the Phantom stopped shaking, Russ got up and headed into the cockpit, looking over the shoulders of Zarra and the pilot.
"Unless the snow got repainted, this place is a freaking desert."

Justin unhooked his restraints, and stood up. That had been... fairly bumpy. Very bumpy, really. Then the Spartan turned to look out the window. It really was beautiful, the landscape... of course, he had to help destroy it, which kind of added an ironic twist. Well, a job was a job. It was for a good cause...
