Personality:
Rana is dedicated. Serving the Sangheili race is her life. It is who she is. It is who she will be. The Elite is focused intensely on the greater good- always what others need, always what she can do the help, always what she should do for the Council... but never what she shold do for herself. Rana is casual in combat, able to hold steady conversations in a firefigh- this is due to her uncanny focus and natural ability to multitask. The female Sangheili is, on the outside, honorable, a commanding presence on any battlefield, and a powerful warrior. Inside, though? Well, someone would have to crack that shell to find out...
Strengths:
A cunning foe, Rana is an expert at manipiulating the battlefield to her advantage. She seems to instantly see what she can do to disrupt enemy lines and utilize her surroundings to help her Commando unit break through any hostile force. She is an excellent mid-range combatant, and a skilled wielder of her chosen weapons: a prototype needler that launches huge amounts of green, highly explosive crystal shards that create a monstrous explosion, and the high-power plasma rifle for shorter-range combat. Her aim is excellent, and she is a master of cover. Being a commando, her squad's presence on the battlefield tends to rally morale among the average troopers. Rana is also incredibly effective at slicing into computer systems and tactically disabling enemies with their own technology.
Weaknesses:
One would be sorely mistaken to suggest that misogyny doesn't exist in alien cultures. Being a female Sangheili, Rana still finds it harder to booster morale like many of her colleagues can. Her no-nonsense attitude can lend many a Sangheili to nickname her "the buzzkill," and she is considered a Lone Wolf by many fellow Sangheili because of her attitude. On the battlefield, Rana is a poor long-distance fighter, as she lacks both the skills and the arsenal to do so. At extremely close range, Rana can be good for a short time- but her strategic battle methods don't work well with multiple enemies bashing at her with their rifle stocks. The Sangheili is a poor pilot, and is equally useless with heavy weapons.
History:
Born to the relatively low-class Yathunars, Rana was told from an early age "no." This, however, did not have the intended effect- instead of simply trying to mate her way into a higher social strata, the female Sangheili decided that it would be much more effective if she simply hammered her superiority into those who said she was inferior. Thus, she trained and worked and accomplished as much as physically and mentally possible until she was accepted into the Sangheili military. She was only enlisted in the military just when the Schism of the Covenant was occuring, so her list of major Sangheil-Covenant battles is short. She was, however, present at the Battle of the Ark, having been sent as a wave of Commandos to board the High Minister of Enlightenment's Dreadnought.
Afterwards, Rana was sent on several low-profile missions where discretion was necessary. Her tactical mind showed through when she outsmarted all of her senior officers and got the entire commando unit in without detection, and even trapped the Jiralhanae berserkers in several elevators before allowing the lifts to drop, promptly eliminating most opposition. Afterwards, she was only sent on the most necessary, quiet missions. Well, that was before the new Spec Ops Captain took over. His misogynistic tendencies began to show when Rana found herself consistently either left behind or sent on useless missions she considers under her abilities... For instance, she was transferred to Zaku 'Vudem's Assault Carrier for "Special Operations Generator Defense."
Rana was quite wroth, but she did as she was told, guarding the already-impenetrable energy core aroud the clock. She finally got to see some real action on New Jerusalem, when she battled Rifters head-to-head, and killing as many as possible. She also aided in the evacuation efforts, contributing to the survival of forty-two human colonists.
