Earth. The pinnacle of civilisation. Far out in space, the colonies wheeled around their mother planet, in allegiance, in subservience. It was a symbiotic and beautiful relationship; a centralised galactic government, the United Nations Space Command, wielding supreme command of the lives of hundreds of thousands of different planets, which, in turn, survived through the care of the UNSC. A tidy, peaceful relationship. A relationship that, since the end of the Human-Covenant war, had never been truly threatened. For how could the small Covenant Remnant hope to challenge the alliance of men and Elites, of human and Sangheili? The galaxy knew a time of peace, and Earth and her colonies grew and prospered. For years people knew of a time where humanity was not under threat, where humanity could focus on development, not war. And then things changed. The Rifters had revealed their betrayal at a key time for the United Nations Space Command; with the defence mainframe down, and the two Supreme Commanders hurrying to attempt to return to Earth in order to save her. For the Rifters were making their inexorable sojourn towards Earth, with the sole intention of bringing about death and destruction. The various fleets sent to hinder the Rifter forces had been scattered; the time that the United Nations Space Command had attempted to barter with the lives of brave servicemen and women had been, so far, for nothing. It would come down to a battle, a battle during which they would have to restore the mainframe or suffer the consequences. A general recall of all United Nations Space Command personnel had been issued to all systems not in desperate need of defence in case of an attack by the Covenant Remnant. But would it be enough? The ship carrying Supreme Commanders Arikeen and Hellenes was moving too slowly for Hellenes liking; somewhere behind them, out there, the Rifter fleet was just behind them. Earth stood there, before them, a beautiful orb of all that humanity stood for. It was deceptively far away, and yet looked close; nevertheless, they were almost there, and soon would be. The FTL drives were working to do just that. But would they be in time? *** The Master Chief, Matt-081, stood on the bridge of the ship next to the Captain from Aerilon. The general recall had reached him as he had been travelling back to Earth; meeting with the Aerilon fleet, returning, he wondered if they would be able to muster a strong enough fleet to gain them the time they needed. Presumably, the battle would be fought in space, boarding the various Rifter ships and attempting to stop their attack. Earth was at risk, as was the fate of all the humans on the planet. Beneath the war hardened exterior, the psychological set up to keep himself feeling strong for the battle ahead, Matt wondered if Charlie would be all right. He dimly wondered if this would be his last conflict, if this was his last battle, if, this time in a week, he would not even be alive. He finally realised that he didn't particularly care; if he were to die, it would be in defence of Earth and her colonies. That would be an honourable way to die.

"I thought the Rifters were our buddies or somthin'," Lachlan said, looking out over Earth. He then spun around when Kelly didn't reply, she still stood on her pedestal, pressing her two fingers against her head, "Seriously, give that a rest," Kelly put her hand down and looked at Lachlan, exhausted. "The UNSC network is down, or gone. That's the only conclusion I've been able to arrive at," "You spent the whole trip from Doisac to Earth thinking about this, and you that's your conclusion? Hell Kellz, I could have arrived at that conclusion in just a few minutes," Lachlan chuckled. "I doubt that," Kelly frowned, "And for your information, I arrived at that conclusion seconds after thinking about it. I had calculations to make, to make sure I was wrong," "You must have made a lot of calculations for you to-" "Seventeen million calculations," Kelly interrupted, "I was very... thorough."
Charlie lay in her bed looking up at the metal cieling, the fact that Earth was going to be attacked again didnt rest well with her. Especially that it was the Rifters, lying bastards. She had seen what these things were capable of, they were stronger, much stronger than the Remnant...
Meanwhile, the Human force sent to stall the Rifter fleet had been decimated. The remaining ships jumped to a random location, but just after a rendezvous point was marked; Sanghelios.

((SPARTAN))
"Hello? What's your name?" the lady asked, kneeled down to face the young boy and his little brother at eye level. The woman had black hair, but graying. She had grayish-blue eyes to match and glasses to top it off. She was wearing a jet black winter coat. The lady smiled at Mitch. "My name is Catherine. Here." she said, giving Mitch and Davis both two cookies. The brothers scarfed them down and Mitch grinned at Catherine. "You know, if you come with me and my friend, Lieutenant Walden, here, there'll be more where that came from." she asked. She smiled once again and held out a hand each to the two brothers. Mitch hesitated. But then he looked around Aura City's poor district. It was winter. The coldest day yet. He looked back up at Catherine, took her hand, and smiled. "I'm Mitch."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The cryo pod openned. As did the other seventy-five pods containing the future SPARTAN-IIs. Mitch stepped out and stood beside a fellow SPARTAN-II trainee. She was as tall as he was, had strawberry blonde hair. She looked at him and smiled. "You have nice eyes..." Mitch spit out. As embrassing as it was. She laughed quietly. "My name's Cassy. Yours?" she asked. Mitch blushed. "I...I'm Mitch. Great to meet you-" "Shut up! The Doctor is about to speak!" a soldier said to the two. Cassy smiled at Mitch once more and then turned her attention foreward to Doctor Catherine Halsey. She cleared her throat and began to speak.
"You have been called upon to serve, you will be trained...and you will become the best we can make of you. You will be the Protectors of Earth and all her Colonies."
Mitch looked around once and noticed another kid, who was reluctant to be here. "Jai..." he thought to himself. He turned his attention back to Catherine Halsey in time to hear the rest of her speech. Now, Mitch was inspired.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"All systems green. Blowing pins in seven..." a voice said. Mitch's vision blurred and then re-focused. He was awake. "Welcome back, Sir! No need to rush, just relax. We're in no trouble right now." the tech officer said. Mitch nodded and stepped out. He took off his helmet and stretched. After a minute, five tech officers clad in white clothing came out with various gadgets and examined Mitch's armour and himself. "How's Alicia?" Mitch asked. "She's alright, Sir." a tech officer answered. Alicia's avatar manifested itself on the holo panel beside Mitch. He was relieved to see her again. her appearance of a teenaged girl, with long hair reaching down to her elbows. She wore an ankle-length sleeveless gown and her entire body was blood red. It relieved Mitch to see a familiar face again. "Sleep well?" Alicia asked. "Not to bad. You alright again?" Mitch replied. Alicia smiled. "Of course!" Mitch chuckled.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A tech officer approached Matt on the bridge. "Chief? Mitch-105 is awake and ready now, Sir."
((Mitch-105 is aboard Matt's ship.))

Mitch was relieved to see his squad again. He sat down beside Atlas. "Atlas. Carrie. Vince, Carmine." he addressed them all and gave a gentle wave to them all. "I'm a Master Sergeant now. So, yea. You know the drill from now on." He stood up and left for the mess hall. He haden't eaten for so long now...

Carrie sat in her chair, her jaw lowered as Mitch left, Atlas had a similar expression. "Why hasn't anyone briefed us yet?" she asked. "Why the hell is he Master Sergeant!?" Atlas roared in an outrage. "Shut up, there's more important things to worry about right now," Carrie said, stepping out of her chair and walking up to a window. She looked out over her planet, their planet. Their home. She sighed and turned to rest of the group, "Why does this happen to us? Why can't the Covenant just leave us alone?" she asked them, actually expecting an answer. Atlas stood and approached. "Humanity deserves a break, for Christ sake," she continued. Atlas then placed his hands on her shoulders and hugged her. An alarm suddenly rang and the Ship began to turn away from Earth. Carrie looked up and whispered in her brothers ear, "What's going on, Charles?" To which he softly replied, "Tears will have to wait," "Alert! Enemy fleet dead ahead, all crews to your stations. Repeat; All crews to your stations!" Carrie and Atlas parted and began gearing up, when a high ranking officer entered the room. "You lot are being transported to the surface," he said. "What for?" Atlas asked. "They know everything," the officer said. "They will target our-" "How can the Remnant know everything?" Carrie asked. "Rifters," the officer corrected, "We predict they will be assaulting our Government buildings, missile silos, every major target in the book," "Alright then," Atlas said, "What are we defending?" The officer flicked through some pages on his clip board, "Ever been to New York?" (OoC: Coconut, stop me if you had another idea)
***
Lachlan sprinted down the halls attempting to prepare his flight harness as alarms rang and lights flashed. Kelly screeching in his ear wasnt helping either. "Lachlan, listen to me. Ok?" "Yes Kelly I'm listening, what is it?" he asked, attempting to tighten a strap. "You are to transport troops and supplies to the surface and assist in the evacuation of civilians if necessary," Kelly advised. "I got it," Lachlan replied, arriving at a locked door. He entered the key code and it opened to reveal the nearly empty hanger. All the fighters and bombers had already launched.
***
"Quickly, this way!" a Marine instructed, attempting to hurry along the aged High Commander. "Don't rush me, boy," Vlad replied, lightly jogging his way through the lobby of a top secret ONI facility.

Alex "Pyro" Eneas sat in the back of the group- seeing as he had been newly assigned to this team. Their Heavy Weps specialist. The ODST sat in the more shadowed area, keeping his distance from the abusive C.O. His patrician features were shadowed- bronze skin, curly hair that was longer than UNSC protocal was supposed to allow it, and chocolatey eyes. His helmet sat in his lap, and he watched the seemingly happy Mitch walk past and greet the rest of the squad- luckily, however, Mitch didn't spot Alex in the background.
He listened to one of the other ODSTs express distaste at Mitch's recent promotion- Alex personally was just as disgusted, but he decided to remain silent. He moved off to gear up when the others did, pulling on his combat armor over his basic suit and underarmor. The young Mediterranean man buckled the machete onto his armor, then, began to arm himself with his handy pistol, a silenced SMG, and finally he hefted the Rocket Launcher onto his back. Then, just when he had silentlyy finished, he saw a high-ranking officer walk in.
Alex smartly saluted, and then stood, quietly listening. "Pyro" then blinked at the news- not the Covenant? That was... shocking. The curly-haired young man looked around, pondering. This didn't bode well... Not one bit.
-------------------
Justin awoke. He blinked as he heard the hiss of a Cryo-pod opening. The cryo-pod he was in. The cover slowly opened, and jets of steam and cool air flowed out like a misty cloud. Justin shook his head, and stepped out of the pod. He was in a basic cryosuit, basically the underclothes that went beneath SPARTAN armor's jumpsuit. The man put a hand to his head running his fingers through his close-cropped blonde hair. All of a sudden, a hologram activated on a panel next to the pod.
A blue shape, appearing to be a young man, stood there. He was completely azure with dark navy streaks of code on him- much like how the famed Cortana appeared. Now, the A.I. spoke.
"Greetings, Justin. May I inquire as to how your cryostasis was?"
The SPARTAN chuckled. "Sure, Eo- it went fine. I didn't feel a thing."
Eosphorous's avatar nodded. "Good. Are you aware of the present situation?"
"I'm aware of that much."
"Then I don't need to inform you of the present state of disarray. Now you must suit up- we have little time."
"Fine, fine- Keep your code on."
The SPARTAN then proceeded to pull on the black body glove next to the pod, and from there, pulled on the pearly white Mark VI MJOLNIR Powered Assault armor. Justin left the helmet off for the time being, and picked up the MAC5 rifle, and put it on his back. He placed two SMGs on his waist, and tucked a pistol into the holster on the back of his belt. After strapping a machete to the front of his armor, he was ready.
Eosphorous inquired, "Are you ready to go now?"
"Yeah. I am."
Justin pulled to square chip from the back of his helmet, holding it near the panel. The avatar seemed to 'jump' into the chip, and the SPARTAN placed it back in his helmet. Justin-139 walked out of the cryobay, heading for the bridge in his white armor...

Russell just sat there. Battlenet was down...
the Covenant was too small to do that. It had to be the Rifters or some unknown force.
Russ shot up. Wait, weren't the Rifters their FRIENDS?
Oh well. 984 got up. Today, he could die a hero. If he died. He snapped the CQB helmet on and loaded the main combat systems. It was refreshing.
He walked towards the bridge. Today was going to be a long day.

Mitch sighed. he stared into his helmet's visor for a minute and then went out to his squad. He had already been debriefed. Remnant traitors. He rushed out to his new squad and put his helmet on. "Time to dance, troopers! Let's go!" he ordered. Carmine shrugged. "Sir, we have some time still." Carmine protested. Mitch glared at Carmine. "Pods. Now."

Vince picked up a shotgun, looking at it contentedly. strapping it to his back, he placed his pistol in its holster on his leg and picked up his sniper rifle. Standing up, he noticed his smg. 'Aww crap. Where am i going to put that?'Thinking for a moment, he took off his pistol and replaced it with his smg. Grinning he turned to talk to Carmine.
He looked at Mitch in confusion when he heard him order Carmine into his pod. "Wait.. what?" He called out, "We're dropping to Earth? Isn't the whole point of this to stop them from landing?"

"No troopers, you're being transported to the surface via Pelican, no need for pods," the officer said, "Now, report to the hanger and find your bird." Atlas nodded and strapped his rifle to his back, Carrie did the same. "New York, huh?" Atlas asked. "The UNSC Supreme Headquarters, we believe that is one of the Rifters targets," the officer replied. "What if they don't want to take it over, what if they bomb it from orbit?" Carrie asked. "Good luck troopers!" the officer immediatly replied, hurrying out of the room.
***
Lachlan sat in the cockpit of the Pelican as his bay was loaded with supplies. "New York?" the co-pilot asked, taking his seat. "New York," Lachlan replied, "Evac civilians, drop supplies etc, you know the drill," "Fun," the co-pilot said.
***
Ioannes stood on the bridge of his replacement flag ship. The Human fleet was approaching, and the virus had worked. Their defence platforms were useless. "Emperor, our assault on the Human planet will now begin," He then turned to an officer, "Fire."

"Okay then..." Mitch said as the officer left. He loaded his rucksack and secured it to his back. He walked over to the weapons rack and took two Automag Pistols, and attached them to the sides of his rucksack. Mitch found an M7S Sub Machine Gun and secured it to his right thigh. Finnally, Mitch shouldered an MA5C Assault Rifle and grabbed a BR55 HB SR. He knocked on the Daisho emblem on his chestplate once and looked at his squad. "Grab your toys and get to the hanger." he said as he left. Carmine shrugged and grabbed an M7S and a Sniper Rifle. "Who the f**k died and made him a Master Sergeant?" he mumbled to himself as he followed Mitch.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Pelican Dropship was almost full by the time Mitch and Carmine got to it. Carmine waved to Vince and sat beside him, and Mitch took a seat beside Carrie. He checked his Battle Rifle and nodded to Carrie and then polarized his visor. "Ready when you are!" Mitch shouted to Lachlan.

As Carmine strapped himself into the seat, Vince laughed quietly. "So Carmine.. New York huh?" nudging him, Vince laughed again. " I wonder if any one will be shot out of the air this time..."
Checking that his shotgun was fully loaded, he clipped it back agianst his back again and leaned his sniper against his shoulder. "Hey, Mitch! what exactly are these rifter-things?"

John had some time to think while on the cruiser. First the Covenant at Aurora, now Rifters at Earth. A life in the Marines is always busy. He still remembers why he joined. "To protect and serve" is always what he was told. What they didn't tell him was that protecting didn't include his family, his wife, his son...no, he did all he could to save them. Those battles had to count for something. Still, it seems that there was something else he could have done. That doesn't matter now. A fight is fast approaching and Fox must be prepared for anything, physically and mentally.
The corporal grabbed a BR55 and pistol from the armory as well as his det gear, boarded the Pelican and sat next to the new guy, Alex. Fox remembered the day he met him. He also remembered that argument he had with the now Master Sergeant. This is definitely bad news. With all this distrust between the CO and the squad, something's bound to happen. Well, if that happens, Fox knows something will have to be done. He's just afraid that it'll be him to do it. Great. In the meantime, he'll have to do something now to lighten the mood. "So, anyone here been to Times Square?"

Mitch was leaning on the back of his seat lazily when Vince asked his question. "Seriously?" he laughed. Carmine looked at Mitch. "I have no clue what they are either." he said with a shrug. Mitch groaned and sat up. "They're a seperate human army that worked with us up until now. Damn ships are tougher than ours." he answered. he leaned back again and put his hands behind his head as a rest.

Alex sat down in the crowded Pelican. To his right was the new guy, Fox- kinda like Pyro, in that respect. The ODST still held his helmet in his lap... under his SOCOM rocket launcher. The young Mediterranean man shook his head in response to the other ODST's question, and replied with a grin, "Nah... First time to Earth." He chuckled, "And I hope we see some of the nightlife- I hear it's pretty interesting..." The bronze-skinned young man looked up, and, to his immediate horror, the ODST sitting right across from him was no less than Mitch.
His grin changed to a blank expression of vapidity. Then, Alex closed his eyes, raised his eyebrows, and exhaled. Great. He pulled on his helmet, and de-polarized the helmet.
Talk about a buzzkill.
