An example of a well formed debate occurred in the Cbox on August 11, 2010 (Read from the bottom):
Ares: And you'll note that the smartest animals (primates, dolphins, etc.) tend to travel in small to mediuim sized, closely-knit groups?
Ares: And don't groups work better and accomplish things than a single creature?
Ares:
Danny: I know. The ultimate reason that humans (a rather emotional race) has dominated the world so far is that we have a very strong unit. Think about it- love really does bring the group together.
Ares: You'll be NUTTY AS A FRUITCAKE! xD
Ares: xD lol
Specs: **** it I am just going the Sith (or the Jedi if the nerds have not made it into a religion yet)
Ares: I do, too, but that doesn't help me put faith in anything. ;P
Danny: Ok, biologically, I'll agree. But only because of the emotional factor, in which the couple decides they want a family.
Ares: Yeah. I have to spend time around too many of those. Doesn't make me very tolerant of organized religion... unsurprising. You hang aroud hypocrites, you become one yourself. xD
Specs: And I still like my clockmaker idealogy
Specs: All I know is I am not a huge fan of overly religious people
Ares: ... there's a hefty dose of that in me too. Good ol' confusion, adding entropy to all I do and everywhere I go. xD
Specs: But yes Ares is right that is what I am trying to say
Specs: I dunno where religiously I fall still trying to figure things out
Ares: As well as binding the group together
Ares: The eventual goal (emotionally) is really stabilization and comfort.
Ares:
Danny: That's not what he was saying. Specs is stating that the eventual goal of love (biologically) is to reproduce.
Ares: Personally, I fall in between deism and atheism... so more or less, I tend to ascribe to existentialism. =D
Ares: As for deism, that's the general belief that there's a being (of some sort) that is of a higher plane that made the universe, but that no one organized religion has it right.
Indi: Though I do agree that God doesn't often interfere in daily life, but only because he wants us to be free to make our own decisions.
Danny: Per Indi. Specs, when you fall in love, and I mean really fall, I guarantee your first thought wont be 'I cant wait to see her naked.'
Ares: When ya think about it, love is just an attatchment to something. It just so happens that this thing is a person/animal
Ares: If you're speaking biologically, then love is an instinct to protect those you care for.
Indi: I think there's far more to it than that.
specs: Perhaps there is more to love but I guess what I am trying to say is the instint to reproduce is the main driving factor of love
Indi: Well, I think that's a rather petty reason to declare someone unworthy of love.
specs: I actually think your right Danny so I consider myself following that example my teacher used to describe it
specs: Kinda I was going off my teachers definition of it as seeing God as a clockmaker; he made the watch (universe) and let's it run by itself only fixing broken or damaged parts
Danny: Like, completely?
Danny: That doesn't make you a Deist. Dont they believe God abandoned us?
Specs: Well not a hard core deist just I believe in a God made the universe and interferes very little in human affairs
Danny: Oh.
Specs: I consider myself more of a deist now
Specs: It all goes deep down to our instints
Danny: Aren't you Catholic? Shouldn't you be thinking: 'Relationship without sex = good' ?
Specs: Yep
Danny: is sex?
Specs: Possibly I am just saying that the main goal of a relationship
Indi: Because what you said would imply that as well.
Indi: So what, you don't think a person who, for whatever reason, is unable to reproduce shouldn't fall in love with anyone or get married or anything?
Specs: Yep as that ulitmately is the goal of every relationship; maybe even as long as intercourse can be performed I guess (
Danny: Also, are you confusing love with lust? Love is the utmost desire to be with someone, and not in 'that' way.
Danny: Specs, were you trying to say that interspecies relationships are ok only if they can conceive?
Specs: I am saying that love is merely a more "civilized" approach to the instint of reproduction
Indi: Just because they can't have children together doesn't mean two people shouldn't be allowed to love eachother. =P
Specs: All I see that I put to be in the wrong tense that be should be is
Danny: "Interspecies relationships are fine as long as procreation and offspring be produced." ...Did ya miss a word there, Specs?
Specs: Interspecies relationships are fine as long as procreation and offspring be produced
Specs: Deep down at least
Specs: Love's only purpose is procreation
Danny: It wouldnt be a freakish fetish or anything like that
Danny: I was just sayin, a Human male could fall for a female Sangheili. There's obviously significant physical differences between the two species, but that's not why I was thinking the male would like her.
Danny: They dont have to actually be in the relationship
Spartan-777: Bow Chicka Honk Honk.
Specs: I will be back when I can clear this thought and images of said thought away *shutters*
Specs: *throws up at the very thought of said relationship*
Specs: ....I.....how.....would this relationship "work"....like displays of affection and other....deeds
Danny: I dont think anyone has had it anywhere
Ares: That's what I'm thinking. It's something new... I mean, I don't THINK we've had human-Sangheili relationships on this site, yet.
Indi: That could be interesting.
Indi: Cross-species relationships usually strike me as a little odd, but I guess there's no reason why they wouldn't happen between humans and aliens.
Ares: You know how I had made that female Elite I never used? Got a female, if you want. I also have a kleptomaniacal Minor who's male. xD
Ares: I had actually been toying with that one, too.
Danny: I think I might play around with the idea of a Human falling in love with a Sangheili
