Agreed, though not necessarily a gun. You could have two types of explosives/splash instead, for diversity

Here's how I think it should work (based on Fireteam Bravo 3's weapons system and the sugestion made:
Melee weapon Secondary weapon (pistol/SMG) Primary weapon (Assault rifles/LMGs/Shotguns/Snipers/Anti-Armor weapons like grenade launchers and rocket launchers) Three equipment slots where anything can be carried (from C4 to extra ammunition) An "inventory" where extra equipment, plot-related items, and in some cases other weapons can be stashed until it can be moved into an active slot (i.e. if you got an anti-radiation Artifact, it would be put into the inventory, but could be moved into an equipment slot for the anti-rad effect to take place)
